AIRPORT MASTER PLAN UPDATE EFFORTS CONTINUE IN 2008
Planning for the future of Hood River's Ken Jernstedt Airfield
began September 19, 2002, when the Port of Hood River hosted
a public meeting to kick off a new airport Master Plan update
process.
The Port, working in conjunction with Oregon Department of
Aviation and aviation planning consultant Century West, concluded
much of the Plan in early 2004. The new Plan guides development
at Ken Jernstedt Airfield for the next 20 years.
Master Plan topics that were considered included potential
property acquisitions, hangar construction, potential runway
extension and airport security. The public is welcome to recommend
other areas for master plan consideration. Public input is
encouraged throughout airport master plan development.
Hood River County will review the Master Plan in 2008 with
the objectives of operational safety, facility upgrades, and
long-term viability of the airport through employment development,
historic aircraft, flightseeing, and flight training. A top
goal of the review will be to look at the alignment of the
airport and County transportation planning objectives, including
economic development, streamlining planning and zoning processes
and establishing intergovernmental agreements to accomplish
those goals.
