Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The antennas will read your transponder and the gate will lift. PLEASE PROCEED THROUGH AT 5-10 MPH, NO FASTER. And DO NOT BACK UP!! If there is any malfunction, there is a call button before the gate to contact the tollhouse attendant who will manually lift the gate. The Port has prepared a Q & A document on the most commonly asked questions; click the above link to FAQs.

One frequent question is regarding the transponder itself:The transponder is roughly 2-1/2" x 3" in size. There's a thin film that's peeled off the backside and the transponder, which has a sticky backing, is placed on the interior of the windshield on clear glass. You should be able to read the writing from the inside as it reads the chip NOT the barcode.

Placement is just above, or just below the rearview mirror, depending on the spacing of the mirror to the headliner. Installation instructions are provided when transponders are issued. PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE AFFIXING. Lightly tinted windshields should not interfere when the antenna reads the transponder. However, transponders do need to be applied to clear glass. (For instance, if you have enough room to place a transponder above the rearview mirror but you have the black dots on the windshield, the transponder would have to go below the mirror.) If you have a motorcycle, an externally mounted transponder will have to be issued. Before ordering, please come in to view their size and configuration to ensure it is something you want to use.
