BRIDGE CLOSURE/DELAY SCHEDULE

BRIDGE PAINTING TO LIMIT DAYTIME TRAFFIC BEGINNING AUGUST 2011

A $2.5 million Hood River Interstate Bridge painting project began Monday, August 8, 2011, causing some daytime traffic delays, according to the Port of Hood River. Motorists can expect up to 15-minute delays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, when traffic will be limited to a single lane. The project is scheduled to continue through the end of 2011.

Efforts will be made to keep traffic delays to five minutes or less, and no delays will occur after 4 p.m. on any scheduled work day.

Traffic flaggers will direct motorists around the work area. Delays can be expected on weekdays throughout the painting project. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.

Painting work is designed to enhance the bridge's long-term viability. Painting will protect structural bridge components, like gusset plates, from pack-rust corrosion and other deterioration. The work will occur under the bridge's traffic deck, but equipment will require one traffic lane. S&K Painting Inc. is the project contractor.

The project is weather-dependent. Delays may not occur every day, but motorists should be prepared for restricted traffic during project work hours. If the work schedule changes, the Port of Hood River will promptly post the information on this web page. Motorists who have registered with the BreezeBy electronic tolling system and who have provided email addresses will be automatically notified of any schedule changes. Area media also will be notified of any schedule changes.

For information on the bridge schedule, call the Port at (541) 386-1645.

Apply now for a transponder BREEZE BY account.

The Toll Plaza Facility is fully operational at this time for electronic tolling. All vehicles with the BreezeBy electronic transponders in place may use ALL lanes, including the outside bypass lanes. All others (tickets, cash payments) must use through the inside canopy area ONLY. We are hopeful this use of the bypass lanes will increase the flow through the Toll Plaza area during the busy daytime hours.

Commuter ticket books are still available for $50 (80 tickets-discounted) or $15 (20 tickets-regular price). They may be purchased at the Toll Plaza Facility (24x7) or the Port Office (M-F, 8am-5pm). If paying at the Toll Plaza Facility, please have check or cash ready. Credit card purchases may be done at the Port office only.

Good to Go Reciprocity:

Currently WSDOT and the Port of Hood River are using the same type of transponder for the electronic tolling. Our intent was to be able to read both the Good To Go transponders and our own, BreezeBy. The readers have been changed to be able to read both at this time in all lanes.

You will be able to use one transponder but you will have two accounts, one with us and one with Tacoma-Narrows. You will put money on the accounts individually and any statements will be independent of one another.

Note: You cannot use your Good to Go until we activate them on our system.

REMINDER: Please have your toll (ticket, check or cash) ready before you reach the toll booth.
