NEW WATERFRONT PARKING PLAN IN PLACE FOR 2011
The Port of Hood River Event Site has become a popular water
recreation destination for visitors and local residents alike.
To encourage enjoyment of the waterfront location the Port
has developed a new parking plan for adjoining
Portway Avenue and North 1st Street.
The plan designates no-parking areas near the Event Site entrance
and along Portway Avenue. Some 90-minute parking has been
set aside for the public that wants to visit the Event Site
for short periods. Loading zone and reserve parking are identified
inside the Event Site lot. The plan was developed by the Port
Waterfront Recreation Committee and Parking Subcommittee,
which made their recommendation to the Hood River Port Commission.
Daily Event Site fees are $5 for vehicles up to 22 feet and
$10 for vehicles exceeding 22 feet (vehicles with trailers
longer than 22 feet pay the higher fee). Annual fees are $50
for vehicles under 22 feet and $100 for those over 22 feet.
The nearby Nichols Basin also is seeing more use by water
enthusiasts. The Port reminds the public that the Nichols
Basin beach is not a park but it may be enjoyed as a limited
use area. There are no lifeguards on duty. These activities
are not allowed: overnight parking, launching of motorized
watercraft and commercial activity. People may still access
the water to launch non-motorized watercraft including stand-up
paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, etc. Dogs are welcome if they
are on a leash, and owners are asked to clean up after their
pet.
Waterfront areas close at dusk. Management of these waterfront
locations is subject to Port Ordinance 22, available
here. The Port thanks you for respecting and protecting
the Hood River waterfront.
